LEVEL 3 – INTRODUCTORY CERTIFICATE IN FIRST LINE MANAGEMENT (ILM)
The aim of the Introductory Certificate in First Line Management is to give practising or potential managers the foundation for their formal development. The programme aims to:
Assist participants to gain the basic knowledge required by a manager;
Develop basic management skills.
THE PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND DURATION
The programme comprises 34 guided learning hours excluding assessment and is delivered over 12 weeks. The programme covers:
Induction (3 hrs)
Ten 3 hour segments as follows:
Problem solving skills (core segment)
Planning change (core segment)
Using information for decisions (core segment)
Building the team
Motivation
Communication media
Influencing and negotiating
Continuous improvement
Understanding Costs
Maintaining discipline
Tutorial support for development and assessment (2 hrs).
ASSESSMENT
Each participant must complete to a national standard:
A work-based assignment of not less than 1000 words, set and assessed externally (covering the core segments)
Segment reviews covering 4 non-core segments
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants will normally be either practising or potential first line managers. There are no formal educational requirements, but participants should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme
PROGRESSION
On successful completion of the Introductory Certificate in First Line Management you may progress towards:
Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management.
Level 3 NVQ in Management.
Any other qualification at a suitable level within the national framework.
Segments completed for the Introductory Certificate in First Line Management may be accredited towards the full Certificate in First Line Management. There is no exemption from the assessment requirements.
